The 2011 Letter from the president of the Dundee & District Philatelic Society is now available to view

The final meeting of 2011 was an opportunity for members to enter the one page competition and also to show their recent acquisitions.

The winner of the one page competition was Francis Podger with his entry of a motor vehicle tax disk from Singapore issues in 1942 just before the fall of Singapore to the Japanese army.

The displays of recent acquisitions showed the wide and varied interests of the members and ranged from Belgium and Egypt to Australia and Uganda with examples of the 4d post and hotel stationery from Interlaken.

 

12th January 2012

The Annual Competition winners are:

Peter Dix with his display of the first six definitive sets issued by the Republic of South Africa for the National & General Shield and,

Doug Howkins with his display on the Russian Space Programme for the Thematic Shield.

 

     

26th January 2012

Two members from Arbroath Philatelic Society entertained fellow philatelists.  Brian Cargill's display consisted of a variety of mini collections ranging from a look at the history of the Arbroath society with reference to James Chalmers to pop music, exhibition miniature sheets, Chinese New Year stamps and stamps of Australia and USA.
David Torrie's displays were on Tristan Da Cunha and of first day covers of a wide variety of topics that had been signed by appropriate persons e,g, a cricket cover signed by Don Bradman and a Boys' Brigade cover signed by Alan Wells and numerous covers celebrating the award of the Victoria Cross.
     

2nd February 2012

The society held its Annual Dinner at the Taychreggan Hotel in Broughty Ferry and a great night was had by all as can be seen from the picture.
