Dr.Jon Higgins (Midland Philatelic Federation)
22nd October 2026
In the first of the society's Zoom meetings for this year Dr.Jon Higgins provided a display of British
Borneo Airmails. In an extremely interesting display Jon displayed a number of covers from both
the KLM and Imperial Airways routes from the UK to Borneo. It was interesting to note that a number
of the covers sent from Borneo were sent to addresses in Scotland. Also shown were a couple of
covers which could be classed as unique.

Robert Murray (Lothian Philatelic Group) - 'Stamps of Scotland'
8th October 2026
Tonight we had a visit from Robert Murray of Lothian Philatelic Group who provided members with a
very interesting talk on "Stamps of Scotland".
Robert began his display by providing some information about the political aspects of why post boxes
in Scotland did not show the EiiR symbols and what happened to a postbox in the Inch in Edinburgh in
the 1950's. He also explained why different watermarks were used for the definitive issues in the
early reign of Queen Elizabeth and the disputes over the printing and non-printine of some
commemorative stamps.
Robert's display showed a number of sheets of stamps, covers and letters relating to the design of
the country issues as well as a number of items showing the design of the stamps from initial thoughts
through to the final designed issue along with the proofs of these issues.
